EquineAware Horsemanship > The Goals, The Progams and The Facility

" I have a 2.5 yr old gelding who is turning into a real little gentleman thanks to the training received by Kelly Howling. She's not only trained him but also helped me on a one on one basis to ensure I use the proper techniques when working with him on my own. " L.M. > Cambridge, ON

THE GOAL

Kelly works with horses and their owners, using solid foundation horsemanship methods, to solve common groundwork and training issues. Kelly works to create an individualized program that each owner can follow, and maintains it by giving private lessons during and prior to working with the horse.

Kelly can use her horsemanship skills to work with any breed or type of horse, regardless of the discipline. Her training goal is to create a horse that is willing, responsive and respectful of its handler. She also works to give the handler the tools they need to maintain their horse's training.

She has spent a great deal of time learning from North American clinician Scot Hansen of HorseThink. She completed her PNH L1 and attended L1,2 & 3 clinics by Don Halladay. Kelly has also observed the methods of many other clinicians including Ray Hunt, Buck Brannaman, John Lyons, Dennis Reis and Chris Cox. This allows her to bring a number of methods and resources into each training program.

As educating riders is a large part of Kelly's training goal, she can be seen providing clinics and seminars at large equine events such as the CanAm and Everything Equine Expo. Smaller group clinics are also available. In addition, Kelly writes articles on equine training, nutrition and health for publications such as Equine Wellness Magazine, HorseTalk, and EyeOnEquine.

Kelly has a background in both the Western and English disciplines, competing in the hunters, jumpers, dressage, barrel racing and western games.

THE FACILITY

An excellent care and feeding program plays a large role in the success of a horse's training.

Dream Acres is a well planned small facility, located in Princeton, ON (near Paris/Ayr). A 12 stall barn features stalls with mats, windows, fly system, manure removal system, interlocking brick floors, and overhead air exchange. There is a hot/cold washstall, tack lockers, heated lounge and attached 70x90 indoor arena. Other amenities include a large lit outdoor sandring, roundpen, track and access to trails, and large pastures with electrified oak board fencing.

Horses are fed excellent hay from small squares to limit inhalation of dust, water intake is monitored, and grain can be fed if necessary. Horses have access to free choice loose trace mineral salt and calcium/phosphorous balancers.

Limited pasture board will be available in Summer of '08 upon request.

"Kelly is working with my yearling. Although it has only been a short while I am already seeing big improvements with him. I'm sure he will be an angel when Kelly is done with him! I am already so happy with how he is turning out." A.T. > Kitchener, ON
