About

Kelly has a background working with a wide variety of breeds, including Icelandics, Saddlebreds, Tennessee Walkers, Clydesdales, Standardbreds, Arabians, and a range of ponies, Thoroughbreds, Quarter Horses, and Warmbloods. These horses have gone on to be involved in everything from dressage, hunter/jumper, barrel racing, trail classes, pleasure riding, and line/halter showing.

She began working mainly with difficult horses and ponies. Between her work with the different breeds, disciplines and individual horses, Kelly has developed a strong range of problem solving skills, and a flexible training program. She understands that each horse requires a slightly different approach, and benefits from an individualized program that can be adjusted as necessary to reach the end goals. She respects that each horse develops at a different rate both mentally and physically, and is careful to listen to the horse when developing the program’s timeline.

Kelly now specializes in starting young horses and ponies, both on the ground and under saddle, preparing them for a successful career, whether in the show ring, or on the trails. She still accepts remedial horses and ponies for “refresher” courses, and some difficult types. She strives to provide each horse with a solid set of basics, utilizing foundation horsemanship methods. Once a horse has reached a solid point, Kelly will bring you into the program so that you can learn how to maintain and continue your horse’s training. You are a very important component in your horse’s development and success.

Inspiration is drawn from observing and working with respected horsemen and women of various disciplines, from the local to international level. A brief introduction to Parelli led Kelly to Scot Hansen, Buck Brannaman, Ray Hunt, John Lyons, Dennis Reis and Chris Cox, to name a few. She has made a strong point of observing every trainer that she can, and is of the mind that even as a professional, you can never stop learning. In addition to the direct teachings of the horses, she pushes herself to learn all she can from other industry professionals, in order to bring her horses and clients a pool of methods, techniques and knowledge to draw from.

Kelly has participated and competed in several disciplines, including barrel racing, trail, dressage, and hunter/jumper. She is currently focused on showing her mare in the hunters on the Trillium circuit in 2010.

"Highly, highly recommend this trainer! She is currently working with my mare, and the progress, in a short time, has been amazing ... I wish I had found her sooner." C.H., Waterloo, ON
